When Fabric Has A Voice

Farmer comic

They say that less is more but if you’re a quilter you know that’s not true.  More is more, that’s why they call it M*O*R*E.

Take fabric.  In my world, the most ridiculous question ever uttered by any man I’ve married is, “Don’t you have enough fabric?”

All quilters collect fabric.  It’s been that way since time began.  Maybe earlier.  When I walk into a fabric store I don’t know what I’m looking for or how much I need to buy.  But I DO know that more will be better than less.

A fabric store sells inspiration, incentive, and potential.  I buy fabric because it speaks to me.  For example, a few years ago I started buying food fabric.  Why?  I had no idea.  I was hungry to collect hamburger, popcorn, potato fabric, stuff like that.

That fabric ultimately became the Queen Of Heartburn and I got it out of my system.

Lately I’ve been collecting text fabric.

I love the look of the handwritten word as much as the old typewritten letters.  I even like the look of the typewriter keys.  Is that weird?  Please say no.  I don’t know what kind of quilt this will become but I feel that it’s already sewn into my DNA.

When fabric has a voice I hear and obey.
