Digging To China


Life in the country means never taking anything for granted.

I’m talking about stuff like water, internet speed (which is a dichotomy of words right there!), and waste management.

Someday soon the septic tank is going to have to be pumped out or replaced or some horrible thing like that.  So the first order of business is to dig a hole about this size in your lawn.

You can see how a septic system works from this highly technical drawing and humming that song that goes, “The head bone’s connected to the neck bone, etc.”

septic[1]Next, my husband hammered and sawed to build this box which will replace the old box which will line the giant hole in the lawn.  He wrapped it in some kind of black paper to protect it from pesky underground elements.  This box will get placed inside the giant hole and it will sit on top of the septic tank which is halfway to China.  Then a cover will be placed on top.
